Wildlife Specialist: Animal-Proof Garbage Cans

The boss at the national park has asked for help protecting bears from eating garbage in the park. In this adventure, students will think like a wildlife specialist and create a garbage can that will keep bears out but allow humans to put garbage into it until pick up.

    I showed the video first and had the kids guess what the job was this week. They had great conversations in working in partners to decide what to build and how to keep the animal of choice away. The imaginations were running wild!!!

    We did this with my 4th Grade students yesterday and they loved it. I had to be at an IEP meeting so their teacher ran the activity and when I came back in after the meeting they were so excited to show me what they built and explain why. They did such a great job with it!
