Linguist: Written Language and Code of Hammurabi

In this adventure, students will think like a linguist and use the Code of Hammurabi to make new laws for a society. Students will also discuss how studying a society’s language helps people understand them better.

    My students really enjoyed this activity. They enjoyed coming up with their laws and doing the research to ensure they covered all aspects of daily life (as much as possible). The culminating activity brought out the competitive side in them which is always helpful for ensuring complete engagement.
