My kids LOVED this project. We researched different “healthy” but dessert-like snacks, talked about a budget, and what people would want to order at a restaurant. I added the Walmart food app to our iPads and kids searched for products that were not on the ingredient list, and used those prices. We used the Chatterpix app to create min-ads for our pizzas and after the vote, we made the favorite in class!
My kids had such a great time with this lesson!! We really got into the mindset of a scientist and discussed how important it was to think about how the ingredients we chose would taste together. They are already begging me to do another lesson like this. Maybe a dessert taco?!
oo great idea! we will definitely make a note to release more food lessons- love the dessert taco idea!
Awesome I loved dessert tacos as a kid
My students loved this project! They had never heard of a food scientist. They enjoyed learning about a new career and using their creativity to design a new dessert pizza. We did this STEM activity a week before Valentine’s and students asked if they could create their dessert pizza as Valentine’s Day special for the business they were applying for. After the students created a plan and designed the model of their pizza they then asked if they could create a form of advertisement to sell their pizza for Valentine’s Day. I loved how engaging the STEM activity was and how it integrated so many different content areas. Students loved that they were challenged to stay within a budget while still being creative with the toppings and sauces they added to their pizzas!! They look forward to our STEM time each week and can’t wait to find out what career they will learn about next time!
Here are some pictures of my students working hard!
My students LOVED this activity! It fit perfectly with our field trip to a pizza place that we went to last week! We have been studying fractions, so we did incorporate fractions to the lesson. Students had a lot of fun being creative and seeing that this could be a real job. Students got creative and really put their personality into their creations! Very engaging!
My third graders had a lot of fun with this lesson! They really enjoyed getting to create a prototype of their own dessert pizza!
My third graders used play dough and art supplies to make a “pizza prototype”
Elizabeth Baldwin made a dessert pizza!
Look’s great! Hope you enjoyed It!
I’ll definitely try that with my kids!
I gave this to my students as a STEM activity during break! I have heard from 2 kids who did it and they both had a great time! One set me pictures and said it was fun doing it with her mom. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten any invitations to come and try their pizzas!
