My fourth graders love all types of games; video games, phone apps, online games, etc. When I introduced them to this STEM Career activity they could hardly wait to get started. All their hands went up with all kinds of ideas they had going on in their mind. I let them start the activity by sharing all of the ideas they had with their peers. This helped their brain slow down and really focus on and plan one idea. We had to spread the activity out into a couple of days because of state testing, but it is the first thing they ask to work on when they walk through the classroom door. Every student is engaged and coming up with so many creative ideas. They all received certificates because of their hard work, dedication, creativity and innovative ideas! They got to share their final game at the end of the activity and all the students sat in silence as they listened to their peers share. Gaming has become a norm to so many of these kids and this helped them to think about the process it takes to design games and expose them to the careers involved with the gaming design process!
