I did this lesson in our three buildings with first and second graders during STEM class. It was a big hit and the kids felt so much pride when they passed their underwater artifacts to another group to solve. They enjoyed it so much that I extended the lesson by cutting a dollar store pot into pieces, put a code on one of the pieces and hid the pieces in sand. Each group had to find and tape their artifact together. Then they had to figure out the code and that told them where their artifact was found. They were so excited and are still talking about these lessons.
